This week’s newsletter is coming to you while Ali is very deliberately not at her desk. 🤭
After two years without a proper vacation, she and Andy have finally escaped for a little time away... starting with a quick stop in Lisbon, then heading to southern Spain to meet up with Andy’s mum.
Which feels like a pretty good reminder that sometimes the most useful thing you can do for your creativity is go somewhere else entirely. See different colors. Eat different food. Notice the tilework, the old doors, the scraps of paper, the weird little details you’d never see at home.
So while Ali is off collecting all of that for her next travel journal, we’ll keep the creative wheels turning here.

They’re all part of Lisa Goddard’s wonderfully experimental approach to making art. In her recent class for the Handmade Book Club, Lisa created a small fabric hoop piece while sharing techniques for natural dyeing, image transfer, stitching, and incorporating found words.
The monthly book project is the heart of the club, but our guest artists are the icing on the cake. They introduce members to all kinds of creative techniques and mediums that can spark new ideas and find their way into future books.

Watch your corners.
Corners often need a little extra attention when covering boards. Make sure they’re wrapped neatly and fully adhered before placing the piece under weight.

This week’s featured book comes from Diana Hogan. Diana's book caught our eye with its playful contrast of bold black-and-white patterns and that beautiful painterly green slipcase. We love how the graphic pages peek out beside the loose, expressive marks on the cover. It's such a fun mix of structure and spontaneity. |
