The magic wasn't just in the making.

Hi Reader,

Last week at Books in the Woods was epic! What could be better than gathering with six teachers, a group of book club members, and the VPD team to make books surrounded by New England’s fall colors? There was printmaking and eco-printing, paper dyeing and paper weaving, lino cutting and cyanotypes. So much creativity, but also so much connection and kindness. There were tears and laughter, delicious food, warm days and cool nights.

What I keep thinking about, though, is the kindness. People sharing supplies and finding things to laugh about when a project didn’t quite go to plan. A hug when tears came during morning journaling. Words of encouragement when someone was trying a new technique in class.

Everyone admiring Susie’s beautiful journal and gathering for Coralie’s impromptu Zentangle class. Teresa bringing hand-crocheted doilies for everyone, and Judy bringing stickers as gifts. For me, those moments of connection are what matter most.

A Little Library, Made by You! 📚

Just a little reminder that my special collaboration with Claudia of ColorWay Arts is coming up soon!

During The Handmade Fabric Desktop Library workshop, we'll be combining bookbinding and cartonnage to create an adorable fabric-covered bookshelf and a handmade book using the Long Stitch Link Stitch binding.

The online workshop runs November 5–9, and everything is recorded, so you can create at your own pace.

One important note: If you'd like to receive your DIY kit in time for the workshop, be sure today is the final day to register!

Tip of the Week

Measure twice, cut once

Before trimming paper, board, or book cloth, double-check your measurements. Bookbinding has a sneaky way of making tiny inaccuracies add up, so a quick second look can save you from recutting later.

Book of the Week

A little burst of color and joy! 🌸

This week's featured book comes from Cindy Rivard, who combined soft, dreamy colors with playful floral embroidery and lots of tiny, colorful French knots. There's so much texture and personality in this beautiful little book!
